Tin Man

Possibly one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read.  When reading it, keep track of the time period and who is being talked about. Gorgeous writing with memorable sentences which I just had to write down.  Story begins in 1960 and goes into the nineties.  Love, loyalty, artistry, aids, fatherhood, parenting, friendship....all the different types of love woven amidst the characters.

Three characters...Ellis, Michael and Annie,  with Dora, Mabel, Carol in supporting roles.  Michael and Ellis become friends at an early age and become lovers.  Annie enters the picture and marries Ellis.  But the three are inseparable, until they aren’t.  Something happens and Michael goes away. Decades later, they reunite and what a beautiful literary event it is!  There is sadness and joy in this book.  It is not a long book, but it is emotionally charged.

I listened to this book, read by the author......two times.  But I was lucky enough to have the e book and I could follow along as the author read.

Here are some of my favorite lines.....

What is the sound of a heart breaking?

We love who we love.

Cicadas and transformation

Love is crucial to freedom

Storm shutters around her heart

“Men and boys......should be capable of beautiful things. Never forget that.”

Light color freedom.
