The Girl with Seven Names

Hyeonseo Lee fled North Korea when she was 17 years old.  Her perilous journey through China, South Korea, Laos and eventually arriving in the United States is an amazing story.  She describes the methods she used to fool her way to safety and how she smuggled her mother and brother out of North Korea as well.

What is so interesting and so timely, in 2018, is the government and life of people in North Korea.  Having just finished the book , Forty Autumns, which describes how families are separated for 40 years, living on both sides of the Iron Curtain, East and West Berlin and its comparison to North and South Korea…….I found similarities.  It is very eye opening to read these accounts of such different lives in contemporary America.

I truly enjoyed both of these books and recommend each one highly.
