Send For Me

I listened to this novel, based on real life letters written by the author’s great grandmother.  It was a beautifully written novel.  You could feel the emotion through the words and the narrator’s voice.  Sometimes, I had to work at keeping the women straight.  Four generations of women….mothers and daughters.  The story switches from 1940’s Germany to 2010 Milwaukee.

The main story belongs to Annelise, a young Jewish woman in Germany in the 1930’s.  She eventually moves to the United States with her husband and young daughter.  She is forced to leave her beloved parents in Germany.  She tries and tries to get them visas to the US.  The letters back and forth give us insights into the love and devotion these women had for each other and how it is passed down through the generations.

This is a slow moving and beautiful book!
