Lilac Girls

Lilac Girls is a difficult book to read. I almost stopped reading and I am so glad that I did not.  Emotionally difficult. World War II, three women. Caroline, a wealthy New York socialite, works to help French children in orphanages during the war. Hertz, a German woman who only aspires to be a doctor.  And Kasia, a Polish young woman, working for the resistance, captured and sent to Ravensburg.  This was the only re-education concentration camp for women. Unspeakable, almost unreadable atrocities were performed there.  And this story is based on what really happened there and with characters who truly existed.

Truly, a remarkable and memorable book.
