"Dangers lurk everywhere for the natives in Florida"

This is a collection of extraordinary stories by author Lauren Groff.  She had previously written Fates and Furies, which I loved.  Herr writing is exquisite and descriptive.  I could picture myself in the locations of which she wrote.  The stories are gritty and tough.  The author is a Florida resident and most of the stories are set in my adopted state.  Three stories are outside of Florida, one is in France, which is near and dear to my heart.  Regardless of all this, the stories are hard to read because of the content….sadness, despair, homelessness, abandonment.  Yet in spite of this, one feels hopeful for each character.

I really really enjoyed this collection but it took me a long time to read the book.  I would do one story, think about it and put the book aside.  But I went back to the book each time and finally finished it.    Well worth it and I think, a good way to read a collection of short stories.
