This is another story of Holocaust but it takes place in Italy and adds another layer to my knowledge of those dark days.  The author does a well researched job of making those times come alive.  The characters are depicted clearly and I felt as if I knew each of them, their happiness and sadness.   Sandro, Marco and Elisabetta are childhood friends, both of the young men in love with Elisabetta.  But World War II Italy is going to change all of that.  The fascists and the nazis take over and change life as our characters knew it.  I read the book, and I also listened to the audio which was beautifully narrated.  The story is not an unusual one, knowing how the Holocaust ruined so many lives, but the story is hopeful and helps one to believe in the power of love, friendship, loyalty and family.
