America for Beginners

"This novel is a funny, poignant, and insightful debut novel that explores the complexities of family, immigration, prejudice, and the American Dream through meaningful and unlikely friendships forged in unusual circumstances” quoted from Amazon

The characters in this novel are a delight and the reader in the audio was very good, using the dialect to fit the writing.  It took me some time to keep the characters and the names straight but the longer I listened, the more involved I became.  I enjoyed this book more toward the end than in the beginning and I felt sad at the end, though Pival did provide an optimistic and forward thinking future.  Important factors for me included the manner in which the author dealt with sexuality differences among cultures.  I loved watching Pival learn about America and the freedoms this country offers.

It’s worth reading or listening to!
